Ce département de l'ouest de la France était autrefois appelé Charente-Inférieure et couvre la majeure partie de la Saintonge, Aunis et un peu du Poitou. The department of western France was once known as Lower-Charente and covers most of the Saintonge, Aunis and a bit of Poitou. Elle a une superficie d'un peu plus de 6800 km² ( 6864 km²) et compte plus de 550 000 habitants (557 024 hbts). It has an area of just over 6800 square kilometers (6864 square kilometers) and has over 550 000 people (557 024 inhabitants).
C'est un département rural où l'agriculture et la forêt représentent 90% du territoire dont 70% vouée à l'agriculture. It is a rural department where agriculture and forestry account for 90% of which 70% dedicated to agriculture.
